Arriving in New York City ~ Friday Afternoon

Gary and I flew into JFK and bought 7-day Metro passes right away. The subway took us to Grand Central Station, which was directly below our hotel.

The view from our hotel room on the 22nd floor of the Grand Hyatt.

After dropping off our luggage, we hit the pavement and sought out a sushi lunch. We found a lovely sushi restaurant...but were disappointed to learn that they didn't open until 6 p.m. Not having eaten since 7:30 a.m. (Minnesota time), we gave up on the sushi idea and enjoyed some delicious pepperoni and mushroom, New York City pizza. Delicious! (We did enjoy some delicious sushi on Saturday). Then we walked around, stopped by the tuxedo rental shop and checked on Gary's tuxedo status...and then strolled toward Times Square.

Times Square

We saw many familiar New York City sights within blocks of our hotel....

Radio City Music Hall & NBC Studios

The ice skating rink had just opened for the season in Rockefeller Center.

A couple snapshots of 30 Rock.

On our way back to the hotel, we ducked into a little Irish pub for a beer, and watched the Twins vs. Yankees play-off game. It was clear we were in the minority, quietly rooting for Minnesota.

An upward glance at the intricate sculpture atop Grand Central Station, as we called it a day and returned to our hotel. In only a few hours, we'd already taken in a number of great sights in NYC...and were eager to see what Saturday had in store.
