A Day at the Zoo

One of my dearest friends, Angela and I put our heads together this morning, trying to come up with an idea for an outing for our collective five boys - something to get them out and about on this fine, winter Thursday during Christmas vacation. Zoo Boise seemed like just the place we needed to be.

Our first visit was to the primate building. Here, all five boys enjoy the antics of the cute and energetic gibbons.

Grayson found the monkey stink a bit offensive ~ P.U.!

Sweet little Jack, with Peyton, Gordon, and Mikey behind him

Grayson was ready to move on ~ "Let's go to the next place," he suggested.
(It really is a potent odor in there!)

Checking out a variety of birds - here, an Indian Crane

In between the giraffes and lions - taking a little break. We were able to see the giraffes in their warm barn through the windows, but the lions were tucked away, cozy in their den.

Grayson and Mikey drive the Jeep through a safari adventure.

On to the penguins ~ one of our favorite exhibits!
(L to R: Mikey, Angela, Gordon, Jack, Peyton, & Grayson)

Gordon, wondering why the penguins weren't swimming very much. It was a chilly day and they were less active than usual, standing near their warm little coves, outside of the pool.

Grayson, peering into the cold penguin waters.

Not much to see today.

Mikey and Grayson tried to lure the tigers closer by roaring at them.

Roaring some more and riding the little tiger toy ~ Grayson.

Mikey on the Komodo dragon statue

Gordon enjoying the balmy warmth of the rain forest building ~ watching the monkeys, parrots, three-toed sloth, boa constrictor, and other jungle critters.

After enjoying the indoor education center, we're getting ready to go have a snack in the parking lot and head for home. Grayson and Mikey were getting pretty tired, as you can probably tell in this picture.

All five boys, rallying to try and make another round through the zoo.
Sorry guys. It's time to call it a day.

We spent close to three hours at the zoo, enjoying great company and interesting animals.
It was a wonderful way to spend today.
